What is CryoPen?
CryoPen is a fast, safe and effective solution for removing unwanted skin imperfections.
The CryoPen emits a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure allowing the therapist to work with millimetre precision. This destroys the tissue by freezing - cryotherapy, with no damage to surrounding tissue. It is incredibly accurate and practical.
Cosmetic procedures such as skin tags, milia and cherry angiomas are no longer treated on the NHS by your GP. With CryoPen we can now carry out these procedures in the salon.

Skin Tags
The medical name for skin tags is acrochordons. They are usually small and flesh coloured although some may appear brownish. They can sometimes be mistaken for warts but are generally less hard in texture.
Skin tags are very common and usually harmless, but as with any skin lesion, it is wise to get them looked at by a GP before treatment.
Most skin tags are small but some may reach up to 5mm in size. It is perfectly possible to live with skin tags and never have them treated but if they appear in awkward areas, such as where clothing sits against the skin, they can cause annoyance.
If they appear on the face, neck or hands, you may choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons.
Skin tags respond extremely well to cryotherapy and usually a single treatment is all that is needed to remove them.
Solar Lentigo and Age Spots
Age spots or Solar lentigos are usually flat, discoloured patches of skin. They can be round, oval or irregular in shape. Colour varies from skin-coloured, tan to dark brown or black, and size varies from a few millimetres to several centimetres in diameter. They can be slightly scaly.
They are caused when the body produces too much melanin or skin pigmentation.
The medical profession are still unsure why this happens. The most likely causes are UV exposure, either from the sun or tanning beds or simply the natural process of aging.
These lesions are most likely to be found where the skin receives the most exposure to sunlight, this includes the face and hands. They appear on people with all skin types but are most visible and numerous on fair-skinned individuals.
Since sun exposure is the main factor in causing skin cancers, and age spots or a solar lentigo can be mistaken for cancerous lesions, it is very important to get this type of lesion checked by a Doctor before treatment.
One treatment with the Cryopen is usually all that is required to remove this type of lesion.
Milia or Milium Cysts
These small hard white bumps are most likely to appear on the nose or cheeks. They often appear in clusters or groups and completely harmless despite being unsightly.
They occur when the body produces too much keratin which becomes trapped under the surface of the skin.
Milia usually appear on the face, often on the eyelids or around the eye and the cheeks. It is not possible to extract Milia in the same ways as a blackhead and they are generally quite stubborn, remaining on the skin for months or even years.
The Cryopen is an extremely precise tool and it is possible to treat milia which occur around the delicate eye area, even on the eyelid.
Milia are extremely responsive to cryotherapy and treatment is quick and virtually painless.
Warts and Verrucas
Warts are small, hard lumps that often develop on the skin of the hands and feet. They are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV).
The virus causes an excess amount of keratin, which is a hard protein, to develop in the top layer of skin. This additional keratin produces the wart which is usually rough and hard in texture and appearance.
Warts vary in how they look and may appear on their own or in clusters. Some are more likely to affect particular areas of the body. Verrucas are warts that generally develop on the sole of the foot.
Warts are generally non-cancerous, but they may have the appearance of a cancerous lesion. It is always wise to get them checked by a qualified GP before treatment.
Warts and verrucas are quite often very stubborn to remove and more than one treatment with cryotherapy is required to remove them completely.
Cherry Angioma
Cherry Angiomas, also known as senile angiomas or Campbell de Morgan spots, are small raised bumps which appear reddish in colour. This is due to the broken blood vessels which are contained within them.
They can appear on most areas of the body and do not usually cause problems other than being unsightly. They can occasionally bleed if they are knocked or bumped.
They seem to occur on people who are aged over 30 and should be checked by a Doctor when they first appear or if they change in appearance over time.
Cherry Angioma can appear on the body or face and can range in size from less than a millimeter to several millimeters in width.
The Cryopen works with pin-point accuracy to target the skin lesion and remove it without damaging the surrounding tissue.
Treating a Cherry Angioma is a simple task and many disappear after a single treatment although larger lesions may require more than one treatment to remove them completely.
Treatment
Your therapist will explain your treatment, assess your suitability, outline your costs and may photograph your lesions.
The duration of the treatment will depend on the lesions/area being treated. Each lesion takes around 5-30 seconds.
There will be a pain sensation similar to a stinging nettle on the skin when the nitrous oxide reaches the bottom of the area being treated. There may be a residual stinging for a few minutes follwing the treatment.
Treatment Cost
Up to 3 small lesions per treatment £50.00 Over 3 lesions or large lesions are priced during consultation.
Aftercare
The area treated must be kept dry immediately post treatment after which there should be no special treatment. If necessary a light antiseptic cream can be applied and physical sunscreen spf 30+ is recommended.
Safety
CryoPen is a relatively low risk procedure. CryoPen delivers N2O directly to the area and not the surrounding tissue. CryoPen is both CE and FDA registered. Trained therapists at Nu-Yu Advanced skin Solutions are certificated and insured.
